Professional Development Opportunities
GTC3 Organizes and offers comprehensive professional development pathways for educators focusing on best practices in the use, applications, and teaching of Modern GIS Tools. We also provide professional development workshops centered on demographic analyysis, data dashboards, and program / project mapping for project personnel to enhance project operations.
GeoAcademy is a professional development online program designed to introduce and expand the use of geospatial tools and analysis across diverse professional roles. Participants will learn how geospatial technologies can be applied within their own work—whether supporting student learning, advancing institutional research, evaluating programs, or enhancing library and instructional resources. By the end of the online program, participants will have gained both foundational skills and real-world strategies to integrate geospatial tools into their professional practice.

GeoAcademy is open to:

Faculty – embedding spatial thinking and tools into teaching and research.

Librarians – supporting discovery, curation, and access to geospatial resources.

Evaluators / Institutional Research Staff – leveraging geospatial analysis for data-driven decision-making.

Instructional Designers – incorporating geospatial tools into course design and assessment.
No prior GIS experience is required. This experience is for those who are new to GIS who wish to incorporate geospatial into their teaching and work. At the moment, successful completer's of the GeoAcademy receive a $1000 stipend.
GeoEdC (Geospatial Educators Certification) is a certification program developed and administered by GTC3. It is designed for middle school, high school, community college, and university educators who teach or plan to teach geospatial technologies with intermediate or higher levels of GST experience. GeoEdC supports educators seeking to strengthen their pedagogical skill set and provides formal documentation certifying the technical skills, competencies, and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality, workforce-aligned geospatial instruction.
GeoFellows is a professional development opportunity designed to support faculty in advancing applied or research projects in geospatial technology. Selected fellows will receive a stipend and structured support to complete a project within one academic semester. Projects may focus on applied geospatial problem-solving, innovative instructional resources, or research that enhances geospatial teaching and learning.
Through this program, fellows will contribute to the growth of geospatial education by sharing outcomes with the GTC3 community and beyond.

Eligibility: Open to community college faculty with at least three years of experience teaching geospatial technology.
Support: Fellows will receive a $5,000 stipend to support completion of proposed project.
Project Scope: May include applied analysis, teaching innovations, or discipline-based research. Project must be directly applicable to your institution's curriculum.
Timeline: Projects must be completed within one academic semester.
Dissemination: Fellows are expected to share project results with the GTC3 community.
Coaching: Selected fellows will receive four one-hour virtual leadership coaching sessions.
