The purpose of the self-assessment is to help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement in effectively using geospatial technology in the workplace. Your individual self-assessment results will be provided only to you. Based on your assessment rankings, we will send you a report highlighting your strengths and areas for improvement, along with links to resources to help address any knowledge gaps. There is no cost to complete the assessment or receive your personalized report.
Geospatial Technology Self-Assessment
The self-assessment includes 100 competencies that have been separated into 9 categories derived from the 2025 update of the Department of Labor Training and Education Agency (DOLETA) Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM), the Body of Knowledge from the UCGIS, DACUMs carried out by GTC3 and the GISCI Professional Certification Blueprint.
The 100 competencies are divided into nine categories:
1. Conceptual Foundations
2. Geospatial Data Fundamentals
3. Data Acquisition
4. Database Design and Management
5. Geospatial Analysis
6. Cartography and Visualization
7. Application and Web Development
8. Remote Sensing and Imagery Fundamentals
9. Professional Practice
You will rank your knowledge level for each of the 100 competencies in the assessment based on scale of 0 to 5. The table below defines the knowledge levels and values for each rank. ​
